I'm really proud to be associated with a new local initiative in Narromine to help improve death literacy and open conversations about end-of-life issues.
Together with Karen Hamilton, a local end-of-life doula and meditation and wellbeing specialist at Harmonious Heart, I have helped start the Dead End Coffee Club. Every month we will gather in Narromine at the Imperial Hotel cafe for what we hope will be important conversations that we need to have. About ten people attended the first Dead End Coffee Club catch up on May 3, 2024. It was wonderful. The meeting began by lighting a candle for those loved ones who have passed. Discussion is private in the club, respecting the privacy of members, so I won't repeat things that were shared there. But I can talk about general subjects of conversation. We learned some important things during the session, including the fact there is a suicide support group locally which meets on a regular basis. Very few people attending knew about that. The great team at the Imperial Hotel provided a comfortable room in the hotel for our meeting, some heaters to ward off the chill of the morning, and a large plate of pancakes to share, which just blew us away. Such a great venue for our meeting. I have also started down the end-of-life conversation path with my own family, and it's very comforting to know that we can talk about these things as a family frankly, and without fear. It is very liberating to talk about these things in a supportive space. If you'd like to know more about what we're doing locally in the Dead End Coffee Club, please reach out. The next meeting is on Friday, June 7. #DeadEndCoffeeClub #deathcafe #endoflifeconvos #endoflifechats #deathliteracy #deathdiscussions #letstalknow #thingstothinkabout #harmoniousheart #imperialhotelnarromine
